Dr Syed Altaf Hussain is a plastic surgeon specialising in the surgery of Oro-facial clefts, Cranio-facial deformities and Aesthetic Surgery.
He obtained his basic medical qualification and general surgical training in Madras, Assam and the United Kingdom. He trained in plastic surgery and cranio-facial surgery in the United Kingdom, India and North America.
His areas of interest include primary and secondary cleft surgery including Orthognathic surgery and Distraction osteogenesis. He has done extensive work in corrective surgery of the cleft midface and cleft related speech disorders. He has pioneered several refinements in surgical operations and other aspects of cleft care. He and his team take great pride in getting the best possible and consistent outcomes. He has ongoing research projects in genetics related to orofacial clefts and has several publications and scientific presentations to his credit.
In addition to his work in India he has operated in several countries in East Africa, the Caspian, South Asia and Western Europe.
He has been working with Smile Train and other nonprofit organisation for over 20 years which has enabled him and his team to offer state of the art cleft care to children regardless of their geographical socioeconomic condition.
